Derp Studios Ltd is a small UK based, independent game development studio, founded in early 2012. The studio focuses on development for PC and mobile platforms, both for in-house funded projects and work-for-hire projects.

Early history

The studio's early beginnings go all the way back to a Game Jam, late 2011, hosted by Epic Games and was the 4th team to be formed to go on to Make Something Unreal Live 2012 (MSUL 2012) also hosted by Epic Games. The team was made up of 10 individuals from other game jam teams who had performed well in their field during the event. It was during the early stages of MSUL 2012 that the name Derp Studios stuck. It was reflection on how we never thought we would be winners of the game jam and that this whole event will be one of the steepest learning curves in our careers/future careers. During MSUL 2012, the teams were given a book from the Fighting Fantasy IP, by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, as well as a genre. Derp Studios was given "The Citadel Of Chaos" gamebook and the First Person genre. Oh and did I forget to mention that this had to work on mobile devices? For around 8 months the teams developed their title. Derp Studios came up with a First Person Melee and Magic Action Game for iPhone and iPad titled "The Citadel of Chaos: Dire Consequences". Out of all the teams from MSUL 2012, Derp Studios were the only team to ship their title (even though it was 1 level long).

After that

Once MSUL 2012 had ended, half of the team were scouted into other companies. Derp Studios went on to develop several titles, a couple of which remain unreleased. We also broadened our horizons by providing an app development service. Due to the licensing expiration for our Fighting Fantasy License, the team decided to reboot and re-brand "The Citadel of Chaos: Dire Consequence" and release it on PC and at a later date mobile.
